Considered among some of the most notable festivals in the world, Del Mar Fairgrounds are the host for the annual San Diego County Fair. The fair was once called as the Del Mar Fair, but at present it is named after the county that organizes it, i.e. San Diego. The Fairgrounds have a total area of about 1.5 square kilometers or 370 acres. State of California is the owner of the fairgrounds, but it is currently in a process to be purchased by the city of Del Mar for a sum of $120 million. Del Mar Fairgrounds tickets give you an opportunity to witness this beautiful site with your own eyes!
Among the salient features of the fairgrounds are included the racetrack, the Del Mar Arena and some exquisite exhibition facilities. The arena was constructed in 1991, while it was renovated in 2009. After some major renovations the arena now has a roof and many other new features have been added to the sporting facility. The total capacity of the arena is about 3,500 seats. The Del Mar Arena is frequently used for concerts, exhibitions and other different activities and is therefore a hub for cultural activities in the area.
One of the most prominent attractions for the public at Del Mar Fairgrounds is the racetrack. The racetrack was built in 1937 by the Thoroughbred Club. Among the most conspicuous names that had the credit of its construction were Pat O’Brien and Bing Crosby. The construction of Del Mar Racetrack would not have been possible without the efforts of its main sponsor, Paramount Studios.
The Del Mar Racetrack stretches about a mile in length, i.e. 1.6 kilometers. The configuration of the racetrack is in such a way that the races take place in a counter clockwise fashion. The racetrack was initially oriented towards the horse races, but there have been times in history when it was used for car races. It was in 1949 that a big car racing championship was organized at the Del Mar Racetrack, but an unfortunate accident at the venue followed by the death of one of the drivers named Rex Mays led to the discontinuation of the car racing events at the Del Mar Racetrack for over 18 years. Later on, there have been car races organized at the parking lot converted into a racing circuit.
There are six exhibition halls that make an essential part of the Del Mar Fairgrounds. They span over a total area of about 219,820 square feet. The most prominent and the biggest one of all is the Pat O’Brien Hall, having a seating capacity to accommodate over 6,800 spectators at a time. Others include the Bing Crosby Hall, Wyland Center and many more, with less seating capacity.
Del Mar Fairgrounds tickets promise all the sports fans some great events and an exciting opportunity to spend some quality time with their friends and family at a venue that has many exquisite features attached to it!
