The Circle in the Square theatre is a Broadway theatre which was constructed originally in 1951. The theatre went through some massive reconstruction in the 1970s. Ever since the theatre has been renovated, it has successfully become one of the major as well as leading locations for some of the most outstanding theatrical plays all over the world.

The Circle in the Square Theatre is a licensed Broadway theatre which is situated in the midtown of Manhattan on the 50th Street. The first theatre that was found at the location of this theatre was founded by Theodore Mann, Paul Libin and Jose Quintero back in 1951. At that time this theatre was situated at 5 Sheridan Square (a brownstone) in the Greenwich Village. At first the theatre did not have a legal license, but then it was Jose Quintero who got the cabaret legal license. This license allowed the off duty actors who served as waiters and the production staff if anyone wanted to be served food along with drinks. In the early days of this theatre, many of the theatre employees, both technical as well as acting mostly lived on the premises of the theatre. Then in 1960, this theatrical organization shifted to the Circle in the Square Downtown, on Bleecker Street in the Greenwich Village.

The very first Broadway production that was held at this magnificently beautiful venue of the Circle in the Square theatre was in 1972. Ever since the production of that play, this theatre venue has been a host to and showed many grand theatrical productions. The theatre is below the street level. It is also the only Broadway theatre which houses with a thrust stage. Another such theatre which does the same is the Lincoln Center’s Vivian Beaumont Theatre. The last play that this amazing theatre showcased and hosted was the famous play called “The Miracle Worker”. Now the theatre is all set to showcase another great play by the name of Lombardi. The Lombardi play first premiered at the theatre in September and is being shown at the theatre since the 21st of October to date.

The Circle in the Square Theatre has been architected by the renowned architect and designer, Alan Sayles. At the present the home of the company is one of the two theatres in the Paramount Plaza. The lobbies of the theatre’s entrance are constructed side by side but they have been separated by a wall.

The building of the Circle in the Square also has the Circle in the Square Theatre School. The theatre school is the only certified and recognized training school of the arts which has been associated directly with a Broadway theatre. The training school gives a two year training program in both acting as well as musical theatre.
