Churchill Downs Tickets
Back in the days of carts and buggies, Derbies started taking the world by storm as the new centre-stage sporting event. The Churchill Downs jumped on the band wagon in the spring of 1874 and officially hosted the much recognized Oaks Derby and Kentucky Derby events within a year of its inauguration. The Churchill Downs finds its home in Louisville, Kentucky and parked on the Central Avenue, this thoroughbred racetrack is responsible for hosting the Kentucky Derby annually. Another such derby which has found its ways in the corridors of fame is the Breeder's Cup. This major derby has been held at Churchill Downs at many times during the past and will have the honor this year as well as in 2011. The racetrack takes its name from its ownership i.e. Churchill Downs Incorporated which is also responsible for all managerial tasks.
There are over sixty such racetracks all across the US. To decide which on is worthy of praise and appreciation, The Horseplayers Association of North America came up with a rating system based on the layout, seating capacity, ambience etc. One would find the Churchill Downs racetrack amongst the top five slots. The racetrack is named after Henry and John Churchill who leased this colossal land area to one of their nephews by the name of Colonel Meriwether Lewis Clark, Jr. Clark's father-in-law, Richard Ten Broeck, was a talented trainer and also a horse breeder. He was the one who introduced horse racing to Clark. Clark's passion for horse racing made him turn the land that he has inherited into one of the finest racetracks that have seen the light of day. Nearly after a hundred and ten years, this beautiful thoroughbred racetrack earned its place in history when it earned the status of being a National Historical Landmark.
The Churchill Downs racetrack contains stables, club houses, café's as well as the Kentucky Derby Museum. The museum is not your average grayscale museum. The exhibits take you right back to the founding days and walk you through time to help you fathom the immense transition which the sport has undergone in over a century. That is not all; it contains a state of the art 360 degree movie cinema which shows short films like “The Greatest Race”. The museum remains open the whole year round and attracts thousands of visitors and tourists alike. There is also the facility of the Derby Café on the track, which was inaugurated in April after an extensive renovation of the place.
A few of the most notable races that have taken place at the Churchill Downs has been of, The Stephen Foster Handicap, The Woodford Reserve Turf Classic, Kentucky Derby, Clark Handicap and The Kentucky Oaks.
