Broadway Theatre New York Tickets

For centuries now, live entertainment has been a hugely popular form of entertainment. From the time the Greeks invented it, to the days when every Roman city had a theatre in it; the art of stage entertainment has evolved drastically over the years. An art form that was transformed from the street theatres of New York and London to the massive venues of today has survived all those years of competition with media such as television and movies. In the modern day, there are two historical places that hold prominence in the field of theatre; these two are the West End in London and Broadway Theatre in New York.

The history of Broadway is actually the history of theatre in America. The first theatre was built here in the late 1700’s and had seating for about 250 people. The theatre was known for staging productions of plays by Shakespeare and other classical written works. Broadway theatre found itself getting up on its feet but it still could not rival the West End Theatre area in London and it was actually acts that came from London who started staging productions for Broadway that really gave a push to the New York Theatre scene. The success and popularity of this venture led to a number of other theatres being built around the area. The number of theatres built on this certain stretch of the Broadway area rose with the continued success enjoyed by the theatres built there and the total number has risen to above 40 large theatres and several other smaller theatres today.

Broadway has gone through a number of culturally significant changes throughout its time. The early days of Broadway were full of race and class segregation with burlesque shows being much popular and there being different shows for different classes of the audience. Shows like the Minstrels, reflected the African American culture in New York at the time and it was shows like these that helped introduce musicals and musical comedies to theatre. Slowly, over the years, the trend of having either serious theatre or simply burlesque was lost and production started incorporating both aspects to provide a more complete and satisfying theatre experience. This led to the concept of the modern musical where songs and music are weaved into the story.

In present day, Broadway is known as one of the two premier venues for musicals and theatre productions. Broadway is widely credited for contributing to the vast culture of musicals in America and it is also home to some of the world’s best and most legendary theatres. Places like the George Gershwin Theatre and Broadhurst Theatre have as much historical significance as Broadway itself and modern refurbishments make them some of the best theatres to catch a show at today.

So if you’re in New York, while you’re taking a walk down Times Square, just walk a few more feet down and you’ll be at the world’s most magical theatre area. To make sure you don’t have to stand in the long queues to get a glimpse of some amazing live entertainment, get your Broadway Theatre New York Tickets from us today.
