The Agganis Arena was opened up on the 3^rd of January, 2005, when it hosted its first event. The name of the venue is based on one of the most popular baseball and football players of the Boston University, Harry Agganis. He played for the Boston Red Sox, and died when he was only twenty six years of age, from a major pulmonary embolism. The hockey rink of the arena is spectacular, housing great facilities and the best seating arrangement. The name of the hockey rink is Jack Parker Rink, based on the name of one of the best hockey coaches in the history of the University. The rink is also the home ground of the Boston University Terriers, who were the champions of the 2009 National Championship.
 
The Agganis Arena hosts several types of events, from sports to music, to lectures and ceremonies, musicals and awareness shows, and conferences, trade shows, family shows and several more as well.
