Disney On Ice: How It Started

Disney On Ice has become one of the most popular and successful family entertainment shows for multiple reasons. The spectacle has made fans out of people of all age groups. It is a journey full of amazing performances, dazzling lights and great music. So, how did Disney On Ice came into being? Well, the show dates back to 1979 when the founder of Feld Entertainment, Irvin Feld and the company’s CEO & Chairman, Kenneth Feld purchased Holiday On Ice and Ice Follies. They then contacted Disney and presented them with an idea of doing a Disney-related show on Ice. The company agreed and in 1981, Feld Entertainment introduced Disney On Ice.

Initially called Walt Disney’s World on Ice, the spectacle became an instant hit. In 1986, it toured Japan and wowed audiences with an exhilarating new show titled, ‘Happy Birthday Donald.’ A couple of years later, the company had five touring shows including, ‘Sports Goofy,’ ‘Snow White on Ice,’ ‘Pinocchio’ and ‘Mickey’s Diamond Jubilee’ all of which were discontinued in the early ‘90s. In 1998, the name of the spectacle was changed from Walt Disney’s World on Ice to Disney On Ice.

How The Show Works

Disney On Ice is an ice touring spectacle which features professional figure skaters disguised as Disney characters. They wow the crowds with their incredible performances and make the young ones jump with sheer excitement. Every Disney On Ice show takes its story from different Disney films and incorporates original music from those flicks. That combination takes the entire experience to a whole new level. This is why its popularity has increased tremendously over the years and that includes non-skating areas like, South America, Australia, Middle East and Asia.
