The Sleeping Beauty is one such marvel which the audiences never get tired of. The Sleeping Beauty ballet begins with the prologue, where the King Florestan the XXIV is announcing the royal ceremony held in celebration of his newly born baby girl Princess Aurora. He invites a group of 6 fairies, who he wants to the godmother of his child. These fairies gaily grant their blessing and gifts of honesty, grace, prosperity, singing, generosity. Before the 6th fairy could deliver her gift, the evil fairy storms in, she is furious at not receiving the invitation by the king. Somehow the matter gets worsen and the wicked fairy "gifts" the baby princess with the curse of death on her 16th birthday by a pricked finger.

Luckily, the 6th fairy is yet to bless the princess but her blessings cannot reverse the curse entirely. By using her, powers, the fairy transforms the curse into a deep sleep that would last for 100 year, eventually waking her up with the kiss of a prince. Act I begins with Princes Aurora's 16th birthday. A royal ball is arranged and the celebrations are on. All the villagers are invited at the birthday ceremony of their princess. Among the guests is the wicked fairy disguised as a harmless villager. She presents Princess Aurora with a spindle as her birthday gift; she accidently pricks her finger and faints. We all know what happened next but there is a surprise in the final part of the ballet.

Some of the all time favorite fairy tales are written by the great French Author Charles Perrault. He introduced the fairy tale genre in the literary world with his timeless tales. His work has been translated in almost all languages and every kid in the world is familiar with his stories. We all grew up watching and listening to them, these were our lullabies. His writing style is so convincing that it appeared as if these fairy tales were the true folk stories of his times.
