About the Musical

The season’s greatest musical was based on one of the best international films in 2007, named “The Band’s Visit” as well. While the film is not a musical, its storyline is the same: A police band hailing from Egypt ends up in stuck in an Israeli village because of some complications at the border between the two countries. They are taken in by locals of the village and their lives become intertwined during the night. The musical puts the story to song, in such a way that it seems as though this is how the story was always told.

Critical Acclaim

“The Band’s Visit” has generated a great deal of buzz due to its impeccable acting and inspired music. According to the New York Times; “This is a place you want to visit if you’re looking for signs of a new and exciting life in the contemporary American musical.”

The Huffington Post has presented a favorable opinion as well, maintaining that the play is an “End of the Year Treat” as it runs through October and November 2017 on Broadway. It has been named the best musical of the season by Time Out New York, The Wall Street Journal, BuzzFeed and The Record.

The musical has been awarded a string of honors. For starters, it has received two staggering Lucille Lortel Awards, for Outstanding Lead Actress (awarded to Katrina Lenk) in a Musical and Outstanding Musical. It has two Outer Critics Circle Awards for Outstanding Score (David Yazbek) and Outstanding New Off-Broadway Musical. “The Band’s Visit” has also won two Obie Awards for Musical Theater and Direction.
