Super Why is a theatrical production based on the television series, “PBS Kids”. This program has been well received by the audiences and has been nominated for an Emmy Award as well. Much like its television shows, Super Why brings an educational experience for children on the stage. It is aimed at preschool kids in particular and is thus an entertaining as well as a learning experience. For little kids and their parents, this could be the show of a lifetime; Super WHY Live! tickets are available for purchase online.
The live program was created by Angela Santomero herself, who is also the creator of the original series. She has been joined by Jack Antonoff, who has provided the music. He is a member of the indie rock band “fun.” and has been nominated for many Grammy Awards. The show is being produced by the same team that has been responsible for “Spiderman on Broadway”, “Yo Gabba Gabba! Live” and “Rock of Ages”. S2BN entertainment has also collaborated with “Out of the Blue Enterprise” to build this special show for children.
The announcement for this show was made earlier in the year when the idea for an interactive experience for children came to the creator, who wanted to build upon the already popular television show. According to the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Pennsylvania, the show has seen positive impact on the young minds. It has helped children to get better in their over-all academics (reading, writing, and spelling) with their “edu-tainment’ experience.
The show’s audience is primarily North American where children do not go to school until the age of five. Up until then, parents ususally insist on their children to watch programs such as these because they enable them to become more observant, hence improving their cognitive thinking skills. Studies have shown how by watching programs such as these, children become more receptive and are better aware when they finally go to their schools.
Throughout the months of May and April, on a quest to find the answer to “Who has the Greatest Superpower of all?” , different characters in the show possess different “powers” such as that of reading, writing, and spelling. The show will be making appearances in 27 cities of the US throughout the summer. So far, judging from the previews and their subsequent published reviews, the live program has been praised. It has proven to be a delight in a new way, taking kids on an educational but at the same time fun journey.
The show starts the favorite superheroes. Alpha Pig is a character that possesses the “Alphabet Power”, thereby encouraging the children to learn the 26 alphabets. Similarly, “Wonder Red” is the character who has the word power and introduces the audiences with new words that they can use to build a sound vocabulary. Next is Princess Presto, who has the power to spell. In this way, the young minds learn to spell out the basic words, giving them the power to read from a young age.
Subsequently, it is Super Why who possesses the “Power to Read” who helps the audience read short phrases fit for children with the help of his sidekick, Woofster. In this manner, the children have a special experience where learning becomes fun. When children are provided with an interactive portal, it makes them more receptive than if they were in a classroom setting with a one end communication.
The show also consists of a variety of songs for each segment and each superhero. People sitting in the theatres are encouraged to sing along. For those who do not know the song already, a “You’ve Got the Power” soundtrack is also being sold along with the Super WHY Live! tickets.
In the live theatrical production, the audience will embark on an entertaining journey with the characters. They are in search of the answer to the many questions inside their head, the most important of which is “Which is the greatest super power of all”. One of the sponsors for the program is “The Chicago Theatre”, a venue which has existed since the 1920s. They are one of the biggest supporters of live entertainment and have sponsored a great deal of children’s shows as well. Their involvement with the Super Why Live this year is only going to ensure that the quality of the program is kept at its very best throughout the course of the 27 city tour.
