Most people expect her to fail, but she does quite well, and later reveals to a friend that it is all due to the help of her ‘mysterious teacher’. The teacher is none other than the feared Phantom of the Opera, who seems to have his own plans for the young artist.

The musical is the longest running play in Broadway history, with over three thousand shows to date, and has won a lot of awards as a result. It has won seven Tony and Drama Desk Awards each, along with three Laurence Olivier Awards.
