Oberto conte di San Bonifacio Tickets
Oberto Conte di San Bonifacio is a spectacular opera by the legendary Giuseppe Verdi written in to acts. Its libretto is by Temistocle Solera, which is in itself based on Antonio Piazza’s libretto known as Rocester. It is historically renowned as the very first opera written by Giuseppe Verdi.
The opera was first performed at the Teatro alla Scala, located in Milan, Italy, premiering in 1839. It was highly successful and lead to Bartolomeo Merelli, the impresario of the Teatro all Scala, commission two more works from the then young Giuseppe Verdi. Prior to that, he had written a cantata in honor of Emperor Ferdinand’s birthday, which had attracted a lot of attention. Inspired by Antonio Piazza’s libretto, he travelled to Milan seeking a venue for the performance of his opera where he met Bartolomeo Merelli who offered to host his opera. After its premiere, it was played a number of times at the theatre.
