Nunset Boulevard has been written by Dan Goggin, the writer behind all the Nunsense series. The idea for the play was generated after the writer found success with nun humored greeting cards. Developing on the theme Dan Goggin came up with the musical featuring the nuns. The first show in the series was staged in 1985 at the Cherry Lane Theater. Proving to be a major hit Nunsense ran for thirty eight weeks instead of the four days it was planned for. Later the show was moved to the Douglas Fairbanks Theater. Becoming a hit at the new venue as well the show continued to run for over ten years.
 
Nunsense receiving resounding success has been produced more than eight thousand times and has been translated in over twenty six languages. The show revolves around a group of nuns from the convent Little Sisters of Hoboken. Leading the nuns is Mother Superior Mary Regina. Other characters include Sister Mary Leo, Sister Robert Anne, Sister Mary Amnesia and Sister Mary Hubert. The first musical of the series saw the five nuns trying to raise money for the funeral of their fellow nuns who had died due to an accident by the cook. The seventh series, Nunset Boulevard opens with the nuns looking forward to their performance at the Hollywood Ball. Soon they realize that it’s not the famous Bowl they have been anticipating. Instead they are to sing at the bowling alley Hollywood Bowl-A-Rama. What follows is a set of entertaining events. There is also a plot within the play. While performing at the bowling alley the nuns come to know about the famous producer James Todd conducting auditions for his next film. The auditions are for the role of the famous actress Dolores Hart who later became a nun. Getting all excited the nuns leave to give auditions for the role.
 
Nunset Boulevard was staged for the first time at the Minnesota's Chanhassen Dinner Theatres. Since then the musical has been staged at various venues all over the country.
