This jukebox musical has a book penned by Berry Gordy which is based on his autobiography “To Be Loved: The Music, the Magic, the Memories of Motown”. The musical compositions and the lyrics are taken from the Motown catalogue. The songs and the performances of the musical were critically acclaimed. The success of the musical resulted in the Broadway premiere of Motown in 2013 at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre.

Motown the musical is the brainchild of director Charles Randolph-Wright featuring meticulous choreography by Patricia Wilcox. The magnificent set designs were done by David Korins whereas ESosa did the costumes. The present cast members of the musical include Brandon Victor Dixon as Berry Gordy, Krystal Joy Brown played as Diana Ross, Charl Brown as Smokey Robinson, Bryan Terrell Clark as Marvin Gaye, Raymond Luke, Jr. and Prince George Maynard as Young version of Berry Gordy, Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder.
