Miss Saigon has achieved the distinction of being the twelfth longest running musical on Broadway history. The music of this musical has been composed by the famed composer Claude-Michel Schönberg and lyrics of the songs are by Alain Boublil and Richard Maltby Jr.
The storyline of the musical, similar to that of Puccini’s Opera "Madame Butterfly", is set around the 1975 exodus of the US army from Vietnam and the fall of Saigon. Further, the story of "Miss Saigon" the musical revolves around the ill fated love and marriage between an American GI called Christopher and a Vietnamese bargirl named as Kim. Chris is separated from his wife just before the fall of Saigon, and finds out later that post the War Kim is still alive. The first ever performance of this musical was made in September 1989 at the Royal Theatre in London and the Broadway premiere came later in 1991.It ran on Broadway for ten straight years, making just above four thousand performances and showing to packed theatres.
