Classic Nutcracker is a two act ballet that was originally choreographed by Lev Ivanov and Marius Petipa, with a Tchaikovsky’s incredible score, and libretto adapted from Hoffman’s famous story Nutcracker and Mouse King.  The Nutcracker has become an unparalleled favorite since the late sixties, and is now presented by many ballet companies around the world especially during the Christmas season, and particularly in the USA. Among its most exciting features is Tchaikovsky’s most celebrated score that has been noted for the use of celesta. Minnesota Ballet, based in Duluth Minnesota and formed in 1965, has been performing the Nutcracker since its inception. This year, Minnesota Ballet The Nutcracker show has been created by Artistic Director Emirtus Allen Fields, while the UMD Festival Orchestra will be playing the famous Tchaikovsky score. As always, Minnesota Ballet The Nutcracker tickets are a must-have among avid theatre-goers who want to complete all their joyous holiday traditions.

Minnesota Ballet The Nutcracker's story centers on the sweet adventures of its protagonist Clara as she discovers something more special than just magic. A century ago, in her family’s wonderful Manhattan townhouse, Clara receives a mysterious wooden nutcracker that after midnight takes a more life-size, leading his toy soldier into battle against the mice warriors. The help from Clara, the Nutcracker gains victory and miraculously transforms into a prince. Through this ballet, the audience journey with the Nutcracker Prince and Clara, led by the lovely Ice Fairy, to the most fascinating places of magic and enchantment; there is the Gorgeous Central Park, with whirling feathery snowflakes like one can only imagine; the exotic lands of Arabian, Asian, Russian, and Spanish dancers in colorful, sparkling attire one can only dream of; soon enough they come across Mother Ginger along with her lovely troupe of naughty gingerbread children; there is the regal, beautiful Plum Fairy; and of course, there are the pretty flowers that pave the whole journey by the help of the charming Dew Drop Fairy.

Minnesota Ballet was formed by Jan Gibson and Donna Hanrkins in 1965, as Duluth Civic Ballet. Since then, the company has grown and extended into a fully vibrant touring one alongside fourteen artists, all of whom are locally based. Before the company came into being, its co-founder Harkin taught ballet at a studio in Duluth, where she noted potential in her mature dancers and decided to start a ballet company. By the spring of 1965, Harkin has choreographed her first ever all-ballet show, and it was a success. In fact, it did so well that by December, a group of twenty ballet supporters founded a Board of Directors along with Jan Gibson. At first their mission was to be merely an amateur performing company but eventually transformed into Minnesota ballet, which is now hosting the awaited Minnesota Ballet The Nutcracker performance. The company’s repertoire since its formation has also included Sleeping Beauty, One Night, Cinderella, Apollo, Three Virgins and the Devil, and Suite Italienne.

Through 1992 to 2007, the company’s Artistic Executive Director was Allen Fields, who has now been appointed as the new Artistic Director Emirtus. The latter has acquired the prestige to work alongside master choreographers such as Antony Tudor, George Balanchine and Agnes de Mille. Their current ballet staff includes Robert Gardner as Artistic Director, Willy McManus as Managing Director, Kenneth Pogin as Production Manager, Cheryl Vander Heyden as Projects Conductor, Betsy Holcomb as Writer, and Jeff Frey as Company Photographer, among others. Their most recent dancers include the likes of Amanda Abrahamson, Benjamin Biswell, Igor Burlak, Anna Acker, Ryan Stokes, Kaori Takai, Suzie Baer, Laura Prather, Yosuke Yamamoto and Nikolaus Wourms. Minnesota Ballet The Nutcracker show is one beautifully romantic, fascinating and fairytale performance that must be seen to really enjoy this season, so don’t wait around; get busy booking the sought-after Minnesota Ballet The Nutcracker tickets before they are all hogged.
