Mean Girls: An Epic Theatrical Treat
Mean Girls is the creative work of Tina Fey who wrote the book of this show along with Jeff Richmond who composed the score for this musical and Nell Benjamin who have written the lyrics of the songs. The trio have worked on many popular musicals before and have won multiple accolades for their work. After this show being in the works for a few years, it was announced in 2016 that Mean Girls will debut the following year on October 3rd at the National Theatre in Washington D.C. This production of the show won a Helen Hayes Award for, 'Outstanding Visiting Production.'
On March 12, 2018, Mean Girls started to stage previews on Broadway before it premiered at the August Wilson Theatre a month later. It was directed by Casey Nicholaw while the costumes were designed by Gregg Barnes. The show became a hit and was positively received by many publications including, Vogue and USA Today. It was also nominated for multiple Tony Awards.
