Celebrated sung-through musical Les Miserables, taken from a Victor Hugo novel of the same name is now being performed at Chrysler Hall. The composition of its music is given by Claude-Michel Schonberg, lyrics written by Jean -Marc Natel and Alain Boublil, with the libretto written by Herbert Kretzmer. The story is set in the France of early nineteenth century, where various characters in different situations are seen struggling for loot, love, revolution and redemption. These characters include recently escaped convict Jean Valjean, and Javert the policeman searching for the latter desperately, alongside a couple of young women lost in love, workers, students, prisoners, rascals and revolutionaries.
 
 
The musical has won quite a few awards with its original London production and Broadway production. The former was nominated for four Laurence Olivier Awards in 1985, of which it won one in the category of Best Actress in a Musical. In 2012, the production won its second Laurence Olivier Award in the category of Audience Award of Most Popular Show. Its Broadway production of 1987 received many Drama Desk Award nominations from which it won the categories of Outstanding Music, Outstanding Musical, Outstanding Orchestrations, Outstanding Set Design and Outstanding Featured Actor. The same year, it also won many Tony Awards including the categories of Best Musical and Best Original Score.
