Even in the very first decade of its existence, the company found fame nationally and a number of famous choreographers turned towards the Hubbard Street to stage their performances. Conte stayed with the company for over two decades. Under his leadership the company nourished and a lot of connections were made. Some of the internationally known emerging choreographers such as Daniel Ezralow, Lynne Taylor Corbett, Nacho Duato, Margo Sappington, Twlya Tharp and Jiri Kylian were linked to the company one way or another in the past. They have played a major role in the creation of HBD’s repertoire in the shape it exists the present day.
Hubbard Street Dance stayed under the artistic directorship of Conte till 2000, when he decided to retire. His place was taken up by Jim Vincent who has successfully continued polishing the company’s repute in the world. He has helped a lot in upgrading the company’s repertoire, acclaim and programming. Vincent took many initiatives, one of which is the inauguration of "Inside Out Choreography Workshop." In this workshop, the choreographers present original choreography with the talent available inside the company. This is done in collaboration with the "Choreography Fellowship" and the peers. Performances are created by dancers Robyn Mineko and Alejandro with Terence Marling the artistic associate. In 2011, Penny Saunders, the famous dancer choreographed a special show for Hubbard Show 2 in the National Choreographic Competition.
A new era began for Hubbard Street Dance in the season 2008 – 09. Steps were taken to present Chicago’s deepest culture on the stage in the form of dancing and music with a number of district programs that were arranged all year long at Harris Theater for Music & Dance, Millennium Park. The company came under the artistic direction of Glenn Edgerton in 2009. Cerrudo was made the resident choreographer of HSD and till date he has managed to create ten unique works which have received critical acclaim. Edgerton dreamed of creating a stronger relationship with partners in the field of dancing and of making HSD’s repertoire better, which he has considerably succeeded in achieving. A number of works of notable choreographers from around the globe and by the masters have been secured by the company.
Hubbard Street Dance aims at developing stronger partnerships with the existing notable communities and cultural organizations within Chicago. As of 2000, partnership has been created with Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Illinois Institute of Technology School of Architecture, The Art Institute of Chicago and Rush University Medical Center. Along with these companies, HSDC has started the "Parkinson’s Project." This season HSD is going to celebrate its thirty four years of existence. A number of performances are lined up which include inspiring contemporary dances. The performances include a number of innovative forms and techniques of abstract and artistic nature too.
Hubbard Street Dance is made up of eighteen dancers. It is currently the only dancing company of the United States that operates all year round.
