The Houston Ballet has been blessed with several prominent choreographers and artistic directors over the years that have revolutionized the ballet scene in not only the US but also all over the world with their innovative ideas and visions. In 1955, 'Tatiana Semenova' initially formed the 'Houston Ballet Academy'. A former dancer at the 'Ballet Russes', Tatiana laid the foundation for the Houston Ballet through her creative imagination and exemplary work ethic. The Academy was transformed into a Ballet Company in 1969 under the leadership of the famous choreographer, 'Nina Popova'. In 1976, the celebrated Englishman 'Ben Stevenson' propelled the organization from a domestic company into an international phenomenon. A student of the 'English National Ballet' as well as the 'Britain's Royal Ballet', Ben Stevenson's twenty-seven year tenure marked a new era for the Houston Ballet. 'Kenneth MacMillan', another cherished choreographer, worked with the Houston Ballet from 1989 until 1992. After the unfortunate death of Kenneth, the leadership was handed over to 'Christopher Bruce'. Christopher has since then worked on nine productions and created four shows especially for the Houston Ballet. He continues to work with the Ballet as an Associate Choreographer. After Christopher, 'Trey McIntyre' accepted the position of Choreographic Associate and produced seven mesmerizing productions for the company. Currently, the Houston Ballet is under the Artistic Direction of celebrated Australian Choreographer 'Stanton Welch' who joined the Ballet in 2003.

The Houston Ballet bagged the honor of representing the US in an international tour at the request of Chinese Government. The Ballet toured China in 1995 and showcased a breathtaking production of 'Romeo and Juliet' that was broadcasted live on the Chinese television. The opening night performance was witnessed by almost five hundred million people, making the show a success. In 2011, the Ballet won another milestone when it became the first company to be awarded the Rudolf Nureyev Prize for 'New Dance'. Given the reputation of the Ballet, it comes as no surprise as to why the critics and audiences loved the Houston Ballet's take on the French Queen 'Marie Antoinette' when it made its world premiere in 2009. The three-act performance employs the best dancers and actors of the company. The highly exciting music score of 'Dmitri Shostakovich', renowned Russian composer, along with the beautiful stage and set design by 'Kandis Cook' makes Marie a delightful experience for the audience.

Hailed as an 'astounding world of theatre and dance' by critic 'Mark Lorando', the Houston Ballet Marie is bound to leave the audiences and viewers mesmerized. Marie has already captivated thousands of ballet and dance fans with its intriguing plot and enlivening dance performances.
