Also famous with its short name HOT, this opera company is based in Honolulu, Hawaii. It has been active since 1961 presenting different productions. Since a long time in the Blaisdell Concert Hall, it has been doing three operas during the season of February and March. It was in 2004 that a summer production of comic opera by Gilbert and Sullivan and a musical was added in its list of performance.
The first opera show that was done by HOT was Madama Butterfly by Puccini. The show was done at the McKinley High School Auditorium during 1961. After that successful production HOT started a list of hit shows which is still going on.
Opera may seem a little unfit for the island culture of Honolulu to some, but the truth is that it has been a part of this culture for about a century now. The history of HOT in Hawaii dates back to 1850s. It contains tales of Queen Emma singing along with the chorus of Verdi’s Il Trovatore. It is also said that King Kamehameha IV, the husband of Queen Emma, also served as stage manager. Personal production by Queen Liliuokalani also got really famous among fans and it’s enormously popular today as well. In 1960, Hawaii Opera Theatre (HOT) was created as an NGO.
The vibrant and extremely creative productions of HOT are popular all over the place. Shows are artistically exceptional and they constantly maintain the basic standards for HOT. Its stature can be gauged by the fact that international artists, who have showcased their talents on the popular stages from New York Met to the opera houses in Asia and Europe, compete for about three years to get a chance to perform at the stage of HOT. Working along with the local artists of Hawaii is a great chance for many stage stars across the world.
Hawaii Opera Theatre has been honored for being the only professional opera company of Hawaii in 50 years. There are many talented people associated with HOT in several different departments including artistic administration, development, box office, education and support resources. For the purpose of its casting, artists are called from all over the world and they are featured in its Summer Season and Winter Grand Opera productions.
The chorus of Hawaii Opera Theatre has about forty to seventy local singers. Thw singers have exquisite voices and they rehearse for months for every upcoming stage production. Every time you will see a show by HOT, you will get to witness a completely new presentation. The sceneries and custom sets are regularly designed by the theatrical productions.
The award-winning productions of HOT are great to appreciate with your friends and family. You may like this opera company for shows like La Bohème, Carmen as well as Lucia di Lammermoor and Supertitles. Its time you get your Hawaii Opera Theatre tickets and enjoy their magnificent productions.
