With The Great American Trailer Park , writers David Nehls and Betsy Kelso dig deep into modern day cultural idiosyncrasies of the often misunderstood trailer-park dwelling peoples across the country. The musical explores the relationship dynamics between a married couple, Jeannine and her husband Norbert, who live at the Armadillo Acres trailer park. Jeannie seems to satisfy all the stereotypes of a Doctor Phil loving, anxiety prone, loud and aggressive trailer dwelling wife. Norbert, the husband, is a slave to the daily grind of his dead end job as a toll booth collector. In short, their lives are on cruise control, heading down the road of life in a straight line. Life seems to be everything without any chance of excitement or positive changes. However, all hell breaks loose when Pippi, stripper on the run’ moves into the trailer park and into the lives of Jeanine and Norbert!

The Great American Trailer Park has been described by some critics as a thematic cross between South Park and My name is Earl. It has an excellent cast that seems to be such a natural fit for their roles. The three main roles of Pippi, Norbet and Jeannie are performed by Orfeh, Shuler Hensley and Kaitlin Hopkins. Hensley needs no introduction as he had a successful and much celebrated career that includes a Tony Award for his work in ‘Oaklahoma’. Orfeh gained much acclaim with her roles in Saturday Night Fever and Footloose. Similarly, Katie Hopkins has carved for herself an impressive resume hat boasts of major roles in recent notables such as Noises Off, Bare and Bat Boy.

The supporting cast includes accomplished performers such as Linda Hart as Betty (who was so good in Hairspray) and Wayne Wilcox, who had notable roles in (A Man of No Importance and The Light in the Piazza). Last but not the least, Marya Grandy makes a lasting impression with her role as Lin. David Nehls and Betsy Kelso are the creative brains behind this musical. David does a tremendous job with both the Musical compositions and the Lyrics, whereas Betsy handles the writing and direction responsibilities.

Since its relatively humble beginnings back in 2004 at the New York Music Theater Festival, The Great American Trailer Park has slowly but surely gathered momentum and grown into an international phenomenon. It has now been featured in theaters across three continents, North America, Europe and Australia. After its initial incarnation at the 2004 NY festival, Great American Trailer Park became an off-Broadway hit in late 2005 at the Dodger Stages.

The phenomenon of the Trailer Park steadily gathered steam and went national by the next summer (2006) with the premiere in Gainesville, Florida followed by a more extensive national tour starting in 2008. The awesome success of the musical in North America lead to the show going international in 2008 with its debut at the at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival followed the show moving over to England and premiering in Birmingham, England. This musical would next set its eyes on conquering the stage world down under. The New Theatre in Sydney, hosted the show’s premier in Australia in 2010 hence completing an astonishing journey that started off an attempt to tell a rather provincial story for the local US audience, but the simplicity and universality of its message took it to a global audience.

This wonderful musical has retained its permanent home in the city of its birth, i.e. New York City. In fact the show is still performed here as a ninety minute full length feature. The Great American Trailer Park tickets bring an amazing chance to enjoy catchy music, cutting edge choreography and a very entertaining social commentary. Come and be a part of the Trailer Park club and have your share of all around fun!
