The Eisenhower Dance Ensemble is one of a kind contemporary dance company that teaches and performs professional dance routines throughout the year. The company was established in 1991 by Laurie Eisenhower who also currently holds the position of artistic director. The company is located in the metropolitan Detroit area and ever since its formation, has been dedicated to performing top notch dance routines that keep alive the real art of dance. The company currently consists of eight permanent dancers that include Alicia Cutaia, Morgan Williams, Andrew Cribbett, Emily Zatursky, Thomas Fant, Katharine Larson, Molly McMullen and Matthew Schmitz. Apart from this permanent team, the company also features guest appearances by professional dancers, Lindsay Chirio and William J. Peake. The dance company’s choreographic team consists of some of most experienced and critically acclaimed composers, choreographers and dance teachers. The team consists of a total of six members including Laurie Eisenhower, Stephanie Pizzo, Ron De Jesus, Lauren Edson, Michael Foley, Harrison McEldowney and Paul Christiano. Together this team of six creates spectacular, magical shows that feature a wide range of contemporary routines.
Apart from working with the regular critically acclaimed and renowned artists, the Eisenhower Dance Ensemble is also known to collaborate with internationally recognized choreographers such as Stephen Koester, Keisha Lalama-White, David Parsons, Joel Hall, Mark Dendy, Lila York, Billy Siegenfeld and Colin Connor, among quite a few others. The Eisenhower Dance Ensemble is also known to collaborate with numerous dance and theatrical institutions such as the Warren Symphony, the Michigan Opera Theatre, the Rackham Symphony Choir, the Immigrant Suns, the Toledo Opera and the Motor City Lyric Opera.
Over the years, this fabulous dance ensemble has produced and performed numerous full length productions that have toured throughout the world. Some of these productions include the "Laugh Tracks", a comedic dance routine, "Motown in Motion", a tribute show that featured dance routines choreographed to some of Motown Records most famous tunes, "Dances from the Heart of Rock and Roll", another tribute show that featured rock and folk music based dance routines and "A Soldier’s Tale" by Igor Stravinsky. The dance company has toured throughout Michigan, the United States and Russia performing these shows and winning numerous prestigious honors and awards such as the Art serve Michigan Governor’s Award that they received for "Arts and Culture". Apart from these awards, it has also received ample support and grants from the Kresge Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Michigan Council for the Arts and Cultural Affairs, the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan, the National Dance Project and the Knight Foundation.
The dance company has received great critical acclaim and recognition due to their routines which have been called "Stunning" by the Holland Sentinel, "Soul-touching dances" by the Detroit Free Press and "A serious and hearty way of moving" by The New York Times. EDE has also completed construction of EDE Centers at Rochester in 1995 and in Birmingham in 2008, in order to educate the community regarding their dances.
This time the EDE is collaborating with the Detroit Opera House, one of the most recognized opera houses situated in the area of Michigan. Constructed in the Grand Circus Park Historic District, the theatre was founded back in 1922.
