Dulce Rosa is an enriching and enchanting character of an incredible operatic production, LA Opera Off Grand. LA Opera is the major operatic force behind the inaugural Dulce Rosa production which is one of the leading opera companies in the dynamic and vibrant city of Los Angeles. In order to expand its repertoire of performances, LA Opera has come up with LA Opera Off Grand starring Dulce Rosa, Tadeo Cespedes, Senator Orellano, Aguilar, Inez and Tomas. María Eugenia Antúnez, plays the title role of Dulce Rosa, Alfredo Daza plays Tadeo Cespedes and Greg Fedderly acts as the Senator Orellano who is also Rosa’s father.
 
Co-Produced by LA Opera and Broad Stage, this creation of librettist Richard Sparks and composer Lee Holdridge attracts people of different age, cultural and economic backgrounds from a diverse geographical area. The production has been adapted from the distinguished short story of Una Venganza also called An Act of Vengeance written by Isabel Allende. The new series has everything to entertain opera lovers and new comers alike. The objective of this fully staged production is to encompass artistic and musical diversity which is unique to Los Angeles. It intends to reach those localities within the Los Angeles community that are distant from downtown. It is for this reason the company presents her opera away from its own hall in Los Angeles Music Center.
 
The operatic performer, Dulce Rosa, has made an inaugural role in the LA Opera Off Grand. The costume and lighting designers, Durinda Wood and Anne Militello are the debut artists of the creative team of LA Opera. All the artists, composers and librettists have put a lot of thought into this opening production by experimenting with different design, style, setting and space.
 
From revenge and recovery to the romance and ruin, the tale of Dulce Rosa has it all to offer to its attendees. Set in a South American country, the story portrays how the young woman plans her revenge from a merciless murderer of her father amidst the political unrest during 1950s. In these turbulent times, Orellano is the only leader who can unite the land but he assumes retirement. One fine night, raiders led by Tadeo Cespedes come to attack the House of Orellano; he gets injured and attempts to kill his daughter Rosa because he knows the raiders will not do any good to her. Rosa pleads for her existence. In the meantime, raiders burst into the house; Orellano dies while Tadeo saves Rosa from his men. Now, the young woman is at war with her own mind; she wants to kill her father’s murderer but at the same time falls in love with Tadeo. She is caught in the middle of two big decisions of her life. Will she marry Tadeo or kill him is a question that will crop up in your mind. To find out the answer, you need nothing but Dulce Rosa tickets in your hands.
 
María Eugenia Antúnez, who acts as Rosa in the production, hails from Uruguay. She has joined the Young Artist Program of Washington National Opera and has also starred as Fiordiligi in the Italian opera, Così fan tutte and Anna in Nabucco. María has participated in the Chinese National Symphony Orchestra at Beijing and made her first appearance in Orlando Philharmonic as Mimì in La Bohème. She has won the auditions of Metropolitan Opera National Council at both the regional and district levels. She has a good operatic track record which is clear from her ability to make it to Operalia semifinals in 2011. The story of Dulce Rosa also speaks for itself in a similar way.
