The blockbuster movie “The Dirty Dancing” and its soundtrack became a pop culture in the 20th century. Its popularity has risen once again with the stage production that follows the same plot with some minor tweaks. The story centers on the idealistic Frances “Baby” Houseman and sultry young working class dance teacher Johnny Castle. They meet at the Catskills Resort where Hiuseman family is vacationing and Johnny is teaching a dance class. Johnny is to perform at some other resort and his regular dance partner Penny bails on him as she has a doctor appointment. Baby steps in as his new partner and while teaching her mambo, they both start to fall in love each other.
Dirty Dancing: The Classic Story on Stage is driven mostly by dancing and the dialogues take a back seat. It aesthetically brings to stage sex appeal and graceful execution of sensuous scenes. Those who loved the movie will enjoy the recreation of famous moments and dance numbers. The audience can’t help but sing along to the popular tracks like “She's Like the Wind”, “Cry to Me” and “Big Girls Don’t Cry”. The brilliantly staged musical will keep you hooked till the end, even though it follows the film scene by scene. The plus is that extra songs have been added in the stage version that Eleanor Bergstein was unable to incorporate in the movie. Dirty Dancing Baltimore tickets will treat you to some surprises as well, so make sure you watch the show.
