Cirque Du Soleil Portland
Cirque du Soleil is back for yet another American tour and as per tradition, it has headed to Portland, Maine as well. The show has become a staple of the Portland theatre fall and just when you thought you’d seen it all, it is bringing an all-new story to entertain you with. “Kurios – Cabinet of Curiosities” is nothing short of a portal into an enchanted world where ‘seeing is disbelieving’ and nothing is what it seems. With daring acrobatic stunts that leave you at the edge of your seats and illusions that leave you mind-boggled, this show is a wonder awaiting your presence. Cirque du Soleil Portland tickets for it are available now.
Kurios – Cabinet of Curiosities
The universe of ‘Kurios’ is set in Victorian England, just at the brink of the Industrial Revolution. But it differs drastically from reality with a strong steam-punk influence. The show features a mad scientist provided with all of this new technology attempting to take over the world. It has daring inventors who stretch the possibilities of human imagination and create fascinating new gizmos which they demonstrate. A flying bicycle and trapeze acts displaying intricate balancing acts display these new inventions. This is a time when magic and illusions are being experimented in as well, and there are many of these: from pots and pans containing items (at times, people) much bigger than them to impossible rope-suspended balancing acts on glasses of water, the Cabinet of Curiosities has it all for you.
According to the show’s artistic director, Rachel Lancaster, Cirque de Soleil went all out for this production, attempting to piece together every seemingly-impossible act. The look of the show is fairly unique as well as it displays an aesthetic of the 19th century. Nevertheless, because of its steam-punk influence, it seems extremely modern as well. It’s like you’re seeing something from your past which has never actually happened.
