Cirque Du Soleil Crystal

Like past productions of Cirque Du Soleil, this year promises to be unlike anything you have seen before. The company ventures into unchartered territory with this brand new creation, with its exploration of the various artistic qualities of ice, for the very first time. Crystal will be the 42nd original production by Cirque Du Soleil since 1984, but it will be the first one to take place on ice. This version of the show is specially created for arenas and aims to create an innovative experience for the audience, pushing beyond traditional boundaries and daring to go into previously unexplored territory, complete with gravity-defying acrobatics and remarkable artistic sensibilities. The goal of the show is to consistently surprise the audiences, with all the creative possibilities available with the inclusion of ice, as explained by the Executive Producer of Crystal, Yasmin Khalil.

The Story of Crystal

This production of the Cirque Du Soleil will follow the story of a young woman who crosses the threshold of reality to enter into a surreal world that is filled with possibilities and pretty much everything that is imaginable. The story follows the theme that sometimes, one must abandon the safety of solid ground in order to discover their true footing.

Past Productions of Cirque Du Soleil

In order to truly understand the kind of grandeur you should be expecting from the winter 2017 depiction of Cirque Du Soleil, you need to take a quick look at the past productions.

The first ever Cirque Du Soleil was called Les Échassiers and was performed in various venues in Quebec in 1980. Even though it was a hit with the critics, it was a failure in financial terms. After this, the creators of the production worked on a festival called La Fête Foraine, which first took place in July 1982. This festival featured various workshops designed to teach circus art to people. In 1983, the creator of the show was given a grant of $1.5 million to be a part of Quebec’s 450th anniversary celebration. The new creation was named Le Grand Tour du Cirque du Soleil.

After Le Grand Tour du Cirque du Soleil, with some renovation and artistic chances, Laliberte, the creator of the company brought La Magie Continue to the audiences. This was followed by the Le Cirque Reinvente and Fasciantion. The next production saw a collaboration with Switzerland’s Circus Knie and included various acts such as the Korean plank, slack wire, tower on wheels and trick cycling, among others.

After the success of these shows, Cirque Du Soleil became a regular event every year. In 1990, Nouvelle Experience tour took place, followed by Saltimbanco in 1992 and Mystere in 1993. The next tour took place in 1994 and was called Alegria and was followed by Quidam in 1996 and O in 1998. La Nouba played in Florida in 1998 and is still active. Dralion premiered in 1999, followed by Varekai in 2002. Later productions of Cirque Du Soleil include Varekai, Zumanity, KA, Corteo, Delirium, The Beatles LOVE, Kooza, Wintuk, ZAIA, ZED, CRISS ANGEL Believe, OVO, Banana Shpeel, Viva ELVIS, TOTEM, Zarkana, IRIS, Michael Jackson: THE IMMORTAL World Tour, Amaluna, Michael Jackson ONE, KURIOS: Cabinet of Curiosities, JOYA, TORUK – The First Flight, Paramour, LUZIA, Sep7imo Dia: No Descansare and Volta.

A lot of these productions are still active and playing around the world in different theaters. Some productions have been retired.
