One of the most celebrated musicals of the past century, Cabaret has enthralled millions of people across the globe. The highly stylized show features eye-catching costumes, beautiful lightings, creative set designs and vibrant music that keeps the audience glued to the stage. Since its inception during the sixties, the musical has been adopted and staged by numerous theater houses all across the globe. The show was inspired by the 1951 play "I Am A Camera" by John Van Druten.  John's play was itself based on the book by novelist Christopher Isherwood, titled "Goodbye To Berlin". A musical film of the same name was also released in 1972 that starred Joel Grey, Michael York and Liza Minnelli in the lead. Directed by Boss Fosse, the film was a commercial and critical success. It was ranked at fifth position on the "list of best musicals" by the American Film Institute in 2006. Considered as a classic today, the film managed to win seven BAFTA Awards and eight Academy Awards including "Best Director", "Best Actress" and "Best Film". This season, the famed musical show will be showcased once again at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center. The audience can catch another electrifying musical performance by getting their hands on Cabaret tickets.

Based on the book by Joe Masteroff and lyrics of Fred Ebb, the musical initially premiered on Broadway in 1966. The show opened at the Broadhurst Theatre. With Ron Field's amazing choreography and Harold Prince's masterful direction, the original Broadway production managed to strike the right chords with audience as well as critics. The show was a major success and was staged over a thousand times. In 1968, the musical made its debut on West End London at the Palace Theatre. The original West End production was well received by the audiences and ran for more than three hundred performances. Since then numerous touring productions have showcased the musical all around the world including Argentina, Spain, Serbia, Venezuela, France, Peru, Melbourne, Mexico, South Africa, Brazil, Malaysia, Canada and Colombia. The story follows the journey of a young girl Sally Bowles. A cabaret performer, Sally works at the famous 'Kit Kat Klub' that keeps the nightlife entertaining amidst the rising power of the Nazis in Berlin. Sally's relationship with 'Cliff Bradshaw', a young American writer, and a subplot revolving another romantic duo, keeps the show highly captivating.

In 1967, the original Broadway production was nominated for eleven Tony Awards. The musical managed to bag all the major awards including "Best Costume Design", "Best Scenic Design", "Best Choreography", "Best Direction", "Best Actor in a Featured Role", "Best Original Score" and "Best Musical". The second Broadway revival of the musical in 1998 also earned ten Tony Award nominations as well as ten Drama Desk Award nominations, winning four Tony Awards and three Drama Desks including "Best Revival of Musical" at both the ceremonies. The 2006 London Revival received the "Best Theatre Choreography" and "Best Performance in a Supporting Role" accolade at the Laurence Olivier Award. Some of the hit musical numbers from the show include "I Don't Care Much", "What Would You Do?", "If You Could See Her", "Tomorrow Belongs To Me", "The Money Song", "Sitting Pretty", "Maybe This Time", "Don't Go", "It Couldn't Please More", "Perfectly Marvelous", "Don't Tell Mama", and the "Telephone  Song". The 'Tennessee Performing Arts Center' offers the perfect environment to enjoy this riveting show. Tennessee's premier theater center, TPAC will be bringing the celebrated tale at the 'Andre Jackson Hall' that has a seating capacity of over two thousand.

Cabaret the musical continues to fascinate thousands and thousands of individuals from around the globe every year. The show features breathtaking dances along with a compelling plot.
