Bunnicula is a play that is adapted from a popular children book series. This book was written by popular kids’ story book writer James Howe in 1979. The first book of the series was also titled Bunnicula. The reason for keeping this name is that it is the story about a bunny that is founded at a local theater by a family named Monroe. The Monroe family is watching the movie Dracula therefore they name the bunny after it. The pet cat of the family is Chester who thinks that Bunnicula is a vampire and tries to convince the Monroe’s to get rid of it. The interesting part is that this bunny does act like a vampire as it sucks juice out of different vegetables and fruits. In 1982 a TV special of Bunnicula was aired but it was slightly different from the original book as it does show that Bunnicula indeed was a vampire bat with powers.
 
The main characters in the stage adaptation apart from the bunny include, Chester (a male cat played by a female), Harold (the pet dog played by a male), Robert Monroe (head of the family), Ann Monroe (wife of Robert), Toby (8 year old son) and Pete (10 year old son). This production was staged for the first time in 1996-97 at the Seattle Children Theater. The music for this play was composed by Chris Jeffries and stage adaptation was done by Jon Klein. The play has all the necessary stuff that will be able to attract the little ones such as hilarious acts of Harold and Chester, dancing vampires in the background, nice funny music and lots of lightning bolts.
