Comedy and theater fans should get their hands on An Act Of God tickets because the show promises to be one of the standout productions of the year.
An Act of God is a Broadway comedy based on the book “The Last Testament: A Memoir By God” written by the accomplished comedy writer and musical theater lyricist David Javerbaum. David is widely recognized for his work on “The Daily Show” as head writer and executive producer. The show earned him an astounding thirteen Emmy Awards and two Grammys.
In the book, categorized under satire, Javerbaum audaciously attempts to personify a supreme deity. His take on the modern relationship between God and man produces hilarious results, transcribed into autobiographical format by the ‘Almighty’.
An Act of God offers theater audiences the chance to learn about life’s mysteries and the unfolding of life from the Big Guy himself. Existential quandaries are responded to in a manner politically incorrect and hilarious. Funny anecdotes, satirical comments on Biblical passages and comic pronouncements abound in the show. There will be no holding back as the Almighty answers some of the questions that have plagued mankind for centuries.
Besides Javerbaum, other notable members of the creative team include the two-time Tony Award winner Joe Mantello, best known for Broadway’s “Wicked”, as director. The producer for the show is Jeffrey Finn, recognized for his work on “Seminar” and “Scandalous”. Tony winner Scott Pask (The Book of Mormon) will be responsible for the scenic design while the costume design will be taken care of by Tony nominee David Zinn. Hugh Vanstone will take charge of the lighting design along with Fitz Patton on sound design.
Among the cast members is the highly popular, Emmy and Golden Globe Award winner Jim Parsons. Parsons has previously appeared on Broadway’s 2012 revival of “Harvey”. He is wildly popular as the geeky Sheldon Cooper from hit television series “The Big Bang Theory”. Parsons will be starring in the role of God while the Tony nominated Christopher Fitzgerald and Tim Kazurinsky take on the role of devoted angels.
Prior to its Broadway debut, the show had been generating headlines on press sources including the New York Times, Variety and Hollywood Reporter. Vanity Fair has called the show “Sinfully Funny” while Entertainment Weekly pronounces it “Miraculously Funny”. BuzzFeed says it’s “as close to a religious experience as you’re going to get”.
The ninety minute show is only recommended for mature audiences. Press sources are generating quite a buzz for the comedy, and it is expected that An Act of God tickets will be sold out quite soon. God’s rib-tickling wrath is likely to leave audiences’ sides aching as the eminent comedy star Jim Parsons takes on the stage.
