Disney’s Aladdin to Create its Magic at Saenger Theatre
Aladdin the musical has embarked on a select nationwide tour and one of its stops is New Orleans. Families are rushing to secure their Aladdin New Orleans LA tickets to be a part of this dazzling production.
Aladdin takes its audiences on a memorable magic carpet ride to the amazing world of Agrabah. The music by 8-time Oscar winning artist Alan Menken and Howard Ashman’s lyrics make it a blockbuster stage adaptation. Tim Rice, Chad Beguelin and the musical’s director Casey Nicholaw have given Aladdin their all to make it a massive hit.
Menken managed to resurrect seven songs that didn’t quite make it to the 1192 film’s soundtrack. The poignant ballad “Proud of Your Boy” and “Somebody’s Got Your Back” made it to the musical’s track-list and the integration that Menken achieved was one of the keys to the show’s success.
Since its premiere, Aladdin has always focused on quality – both of its performers and the stage design. According to some of the ‘Jasmines’ in the musical, the carpet ride scene is actually quite difficult to perform. The seasoned actresses have admitted that it took them a while to get used to be sitting on a moving, flying carpet and hold their voice and sing at the same time. They had to deal with stomach queasiness and learn to relax.
From 150 moving lights to tons of hanging scenery, and of course the beautiful, over 300 costumes – Aladdin is a musical masterpiece in every aspect. It’ll be a shame if you miss it when it comes to your town in September.
