History of WWE TLC
The WWE TLC (Tables, Ladders and Chairs) pay-per-view event debuted in the year 2009. The inaugural edition was held on December 13, 2009 at the AT&T Center and was a huge success. The first TLC event saw The Undertaker successfully defend his World Heavyweight Championship against Batista in a Chairs match. In another match, Sheamus beat John Cena to win the WWE Championship in a Tables match. In the last big match of the night D-Generation X duo, Triple H and Shawn Michaels beat Chris Jericho and Big Show in a TLC match.
The TLC Concept
In a Tables match, the only way an opponent can win is by putting its adversary through a wooden table. In the Ladder match, ladder can be used to inflict damage on your opponent. The only way to win a ladder match is to climb a ladder and take down the item hanging above the ring. In a chairs match, chairs are allowed to be used and the only way to win the bout is by pinning the opponent or by making him/her submit. In a TLC bout, the ladder match rules apply but chairs and tables are also allowed.
