The franchise was founded in 1969 in Montreal, Quebec as Montreal Expos. They played their home games at Jarry Park Stadium for a while and later shifted to Olympic Stadium. The team won its first major title in 1981 when it defeated Philadelphia Phillies and advanced to National League Championship Series. The next notable season was witnessed by their fans 13 years later in 1994 and they showed their best winning percentage. The fans were disappointed when constant shedding of the good players hindered them going all the way to the victory stand. It was sad to see them perform badly in later seasons and finally in 2001 Major League Baseball decided to revoke the franchise. Montreal Expos were bought by the MLB in 2002, moved to Washington DC and named as the Nationals. It is the one the two Major League Baseball Franchise that has not yet played in a World Series.

The team is currently struggling to standout among the notable baseball teams and some drastic measures should to be taken in this regard. It is important that good players should be brought in the squad and encouraged to stay longer and contribute. And the existing players should be provided with robust coaching and practice sessions to hit beyond their fears of failing. As of 2011, current roster for the Nationals include: Wilsom Ramos, Adam Carr, Livan Hernandez, Jason Mrquis, Shairon Martis, John Lannan, Michael Morse, Ryan Zimmerman, Chad Gaudin, Stephen Stars burg, Chien –Ming Wang, J.D Martin, Yunesky Maya, Henery Rodriguez, Justin Maxwell Cole Kimball, Jonathan Van Every, Michael Aubrey, Garret Mock, Bryce Harper, Tim Wood, Nyjer Morgan, Atahualpa Severino, Matt Stairs, Joe Bisenius, Rick Ankiel, Drew Storen, Roger Bernadina and Ross Dewiler.

Since March 2008, the Nationals Park is the home ground for the team. This facility is the first one to receive green certificate in the U.S by Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. The ballpark was constructed in an amount of $611 million 22 months. It has a capacity for 41,546 spectators and is owned by Washington Convention and Sports Authority. The Nationals Park features include two huge scoreboards installed in the stadium and they are both 5 time in size than the one at RFK Stadium. You can view the city by standing at the upper deck of the Nationals Park. The team has a very cute and young mascot named Screech. It hatched out of the giant egg in the RFK stadium in April 17, 2005 in front of 100s of avid spectators. The baby eagle Screech is now five years old but very naught and very lively and it is likely to take his first flight as soon as the Nationals lift their first League title. It could be this season, just make sure that your have Washington Nationals Tickets to witness this.

The Washington Nationals are on their way to The Ballpark of the Palm Beaches, their new base for spring training. The ballpark will be shared by the Nationals and the Astros. The team from the capital will be based in the south side of the ballpark whereas the Astros will call the north side their home. The Washington Nationals clinched the East Division title in 2016 to take their division championship haul to four. It was their second division triumph since 2014 and now as they start spring training at The Ballpark of the Palm Beaches, they do so with renewed confidence.

Washington Nationals Rivals

Baltimore Orioles

The Baltimore Orioles remain fierce rivals of the Washington Nationals. Their series is known as the Beltway Series and it all began when the Montreal Expos came to the nation's capital to become the Washington Nationals. This was before the season of 2005. The Expos’ re-location to Washington meant that for the very first time in history, the area of Washington-Baltimore metropolitan had two professional baseball franchises. The fireworks were about to start.

The history between these two sides however goes back to June 16, 1997 when the Montreal Expos met the Orioles for the first time. The Expos won the game 6-4. These two teams have met each other only in regular season till now. The Orioles hold the lead in the head-to-head record. As of May 8, 2018, they have won forty four of the seventy nine games played between them, while the Nationals have managed to record thirty five victories.

WASHINGTON NATIONALS NEWS AND UPDATES

Despite how Shawn Kelley’s 2016 MLB season ended with the Washington Nationals, he is still a strong contender for the closer’s role in Spring Training. Nats’ manager Dusty Baker said: “He seems the likely candidate,” however he also said that Kelley’s injury history will be considered as well. Nats’ fans would remember that Kelley has had two Tommy John surgeries. In the last season, he felt numbness in his fingers and had to be taken out of Game 5 of the NLDS against the Dodgers. Whatever happens to Kelley will be of importance to Nats’ fans.
