The upcoming game in your city features the professional American baseball team, Washington Nationals. Formed in 1969 as Montreal Expos, the team initially became a member of the National League. Named after the Expo 67 World’s Fair that took place in Montreal, the team played its debut game in the same year. Held against San Diego Padres, the playoff game took place at the Jarry Park. Owned by Charles Bronfman, Montreal Expos faced various difficulties in its early years. In 1977, the Expos’ home ballpark was changed from the Jarry Park to the Olympic Stadium that was constructed in Montreal for the Summer Olympics of 1976. The team won its debut Division Championship in 1981, defeating Los Angeles Dodgers in the final game.

It was in 2005 that Montreal Expos eventually became known as Washington Nationals. The team is currently owned by the Lerner Enterprises with Matt Williams as the manager. The side supports the colors white, blue and red. With the National Park as its home ground, the Nationals compete in the National League’s East Division. The current roster of the team has rotation players Gio Gonzalez, Taylor Jordan, Tanner Roark, Stephen Strasburg and Jordan Zimmermann; bullpen players Jerry Blevins, Xavier Cedeno, Tyler Clippard, Ross Detwiler, Craig Stammen and Drew Storen and closer Rafael Soriano. The catchers are Sandy Leon and Jose Lobaton while the fielders include Ian Desmond, Danny Espinosa, Kevin Frandsen, Bryce Harper, Nate McLouth, Tyler Moore, Denard Span and Jayson Werth.
