The upcoming games feature the Major League Baseball team Washington Nationals that will be heading to Miami this season. Formed in 1969 as Montreal Expos, the side was a part of a four-team expansion program in the National League. Named after the World’s Fair Expo that took place in Montreal in 1967, the team was owned by Charles Bronfman. Initially the team had to face difficulties as it played at the Jarry Park and it was during the 70s that the Expos started picking pace. With the Olympic Stadium as the home ballpark, it was in 1979 that the team scored a record high 95 wins. With this, the Expos finished in second place in the Eastern Division. In 1991, an ownership change took place as Bronfman sold the team to a group of owners with Claude Brochu as the team’s general managing partner.
In 2005, the Expos relocated to Washington to become Washington Nationals. With this, the team’s home ground became the Nationals Park, which to date remains affiliated with the professional baseball team. Supporting the colors white, blue and red, the Nationals is now owned by the Lerner Enterprises with Matt Williams as the manager. The Hall of Fame inductees produced by the club include Montreal Expos’ players Gary Carter, Dick Williams and Tony Perez and Nationals’ inductee Andre Dawson.
