The Washington Capitals are the professional ice hockey team from the city of Washington DC. Washington DC is the capital of United States. It was previously the District of Columbia. It was named after the telecommunication company Verizon that had sponsored its construction. The fans call it “phone booth” because of its association with the telecommunication companies.

They performed 8–67–5 in their first season which was the worst record of the season. The team’s performance stared getting better in 1970s when the coach Tom Mc Vie was hired. Still the team had to face losses until 1980s when the Washington capitals seriously stared thinking of moving out of the capital.

The manager David Poile came as the savior of the team in 1980s. David traded the players Ryan Walter and Rick Green with Rod Langway, Brian Engblom, Doug Jarvis, and Craig Laughlin of the Montreal Canadiens. Langway dramatically reduced the goal against of the team while Dennis Maruk, Mike Gartner, and Bobby Carpenter worked on the scoring side of the team. Consequently the team jumped up to 29 points on the roaster for ice hockey. The Capitals won games in the eastern conference series of 1997. During the same season, the players Oates, Phil Housley, and Dale Hunter scored their 1,000th point. It is a historic record that the three players from the same team performed a record score pointing. The team won back to back games of 2000 and 2001 of the south eastern division.
