The Utah Jazz had to move from New Orleans in 1979 just after five years of their formation. They took time to settle and were a quiet team till the mid-eighties. In 1984 they secured their first ever playoff berth by winning the Northwest Division. It gave the team a much needed boost and they consistently performed well to make it to the playoffs every year till 2004, based very much on the effort of two key players John Stockton and Karl Malone. The Utah Jazz kept on winning the Division title intermittently and acquired nine Northwest Division titles.
In 1997 and 1998 they won back to back division titles and went on to win their only two Conference titles as well. Both the times they made it to the NBA Finals where they met the Chicago Bulls, led by the famed Michael Jordan. The Bulls proved to be insurmountable hurdle in Utah Jazz’s quest for the NBA Championship and beat the team with four games to two on both occasions.
