A number of collegiate football teams will be seen playing at the Rentschler Field this season. The football stadium is home to the team from the University of Connecticut. It will be hosting the regular season National Collegiate Athletics Association games. The challenging teams include BYU Cougars, Stony Brook Seawolves, Boise State Broncos, Temple Owls and UCF Knights. The football team from the University of Connecticut has been active for 118 years. It was founded in 1896. The university was named Storrs Agricultural College at the time. The team was initially named the Aggies and joined the Athletic League. In its first year it had playoffs against YMCA clubs and local schools. It was in 1897 that the team played against the Athletic League rivals from Rhode Island and Yale University; the rivalry with whom had been going strong for over hundred years. The team’s first undefeated season was in 1924 when it scored six wins, two ties and zero losses. Since then, the Huskies have held a strong defense, winning a massive 26 conference titles.

Over the years, UConn Huskies have switched various conferences. The first switch was seen in 1923 when the team left the Athletic League to join the New England Conference. Another change took place in 1947 when the Huskies joined the Yankee Conference. Then in 1997 the team played in the Atlantic Ten Conference for two seasons before becoming an Independent collegiate team in 2000.

UConn Huskies currently play in Division I of the American Athletic Conference that the team joined in 2003. The Huskies have an all-time record of 494-526-39 and a 3-2 postseason bowl record.
