The UNLV Rebels are the many sports teams that form up the athletics program of the University of Nevada Las Vegas. Men’s and women’s sports team have won titles and gained honors for their sportsmanship. The UNLV Rebels play in the Mountain West Conference except for the men’s soccer team which is part of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. They are part of NCAA Division I with the football teams playing in Division I FBS, Football Bowl Subdivision championship. One of the best known historic moments for the UNLV Rebels was when the UNLV Rebels basketball team won a match against the Duke University Blue Devils men’s basketball team, resulting in the Greatest Blowout in College Basketball History. The UNLV Rebels won this game with a record 103-73 score and then went on to bag the NCAA National Basketball Championship that year. Aside from that, the UNLV Rebels have also won two amazing team National Championships in golf, two individual National Championships in men’s golf, two National Championships in tennis and two National Championships in women’s track & field.
The UNLV Rebels football team is also nationally renowned; when the team was part of Division II, it was one of the best in the entire division as a result of which it was moved to DivisionI. Today, this team is one of the very few teams all over the nation to have remained undefeated in bowl games; they have won the California Bowl once and the Las Vegas Bowl twice. The UNLV Rebels have also won the Big West Conference Championships two times as well as received a number of honors that includes nine All-Americans, one Conference Student Athlete of the Year, nine Conference MVPs, three Conference Coaches of the Year, two Freshman All-Americans and four Conference Freshman of the Year.
The awesome UNLV Rebels men’s basketball team has been ranked at number eight amongst three hundred teams all over the nation by the ESPN Prestige Rankins, a fact that makes this team amongst the best ten teams in the US.
