Toronto Marlies is a hockey team from Canada that plays in the American Hockey League. The team is headquartered in Toronto, Ontario along with NHL (National Hockey League) affiliate team the world renowned Toronto Maple Leafs. Interesting thing to note is that Marlies is the only team that is headquartered in the same city with an NHL affiliate team. Toronto Marlies debut was in the early 80’s as St. Catharines Saints, in 1986 they were renamed Newmarket Saints and were stationed in the city of New Market, Ontario. From 1991 till 2005 Marlies were known as St. John’s Maple Leafs with headquarter in St. John’s, Newfoundland. It was in 2006 that the team was relocated to Toronto as Toronto Marlies. The team plays all its home matches at the Ricoh Coliseum that is located on 100 Princes Boulevard in Toronto. This is a multipurpose venue that not only hosts ice games but also agriculture fair as well as exhibitions.

The official team colors slate blue, white and dark blue. The current manager Dave Nonis and head coach is Dallas Eakins. Since debut the Marlies have been usually finishing at 4th or 5th place in the seasons but the first ever best season was in 2008-08 when they stunned everyone by winning the division championship and qualified for the playoffs. They managed to win the first and second round by beating San Antonio Rampage and Syracuse Crunch respectively, they lost in the third round from Chicago Wolves. The Marlies played 80 games and won 50. The second best season was in 2012 when Toronto Marlies were simply unstoppable as they stood at the top of the table by winning 44 games out of 76. They raced through the playoffs beating tough opponents like Rochester Americans, Oklahoma City Barons, Norfolk Admirals and Abbotsford Heat and were declared the Conference champions. John Pohl holds the record of scoring the highest number of goals for Marlies in a season.

Toronto Marlies have won the Conference championship in 2012 and they are persistent to retain their supremacy this year as well. Their upcoming game is expected to be a tough one that will be ending in a nail biting finish.
