Then in 1977, the New Orleans Saints were overcome by them which made the Saints fire their head coach. Playing at their home ground, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers reaped a major feather in their crown in 1977 by defeating the St. Louis Cardinals in the season finale. Interestingly, the Cardinals also terminated contract of their coach after losing the game to the Buccaneers. With the dawn of 1978, several notable players of the franchise got injuries in games slowing down the pace of the team and restrained them from capturing more winning feats.

Year 1979 saw an improvement in the club's performance. They required to gain success in just one of the four games left in the season in order to make the playoffs. They ultimately achieved their first winning season by finishing with a 10-6 record. A major win was when they scored 24-17 against the Philadelphia Eagles in the divisional round of the playoffs. They won their division in the 1981 season making the playoffs again. The team has not looked back since then with their name becoming well-known with the enthusiasts of the American football.
