Malcolm Glazer currently owns the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with head coach Raheem Morris lending his training expertise. The team lost its first 26 games when they entered the league in 1976. The team picked up a brief winning streak in the late 1970s and early 1980s, but could not do well in the following fourteen seasons. They came back in the period 1997 to 2007 with great zeal proving themselves as consistent playoff contenders. At the end of the 2002 season, they even won Super Bowl XXXVII.

After joining the NFL in 1976 as members of the AFC West, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers immediately moved to the NFC Central exchanging places with the Seattle Seahawks. Initially, a construction company owner from Philadelphia, Tom McCloskey owned the franchise who could not carry on due to some financial disputes. Eventually, a wealthy tax attorney Hugh Culverhouse acquired the rights of the franchise. The name "Buccaneers" evolved out of a naming contest. It was derived from Southwest Florida with its pirate legends. Tampa Stadium served as the team's first home avenue which could host a modest figure of 72,500 spectators. The Buccaneers had Steve Spurrier as their quarterback during their expansion season.

The team could not do well initially and it was only in the 13th week of their second season that they started with a score of 0-26 also serving as a record. However, there was one notable win where the Atlanta Falcons were defeated by them in a 1976 pre-season game. Then in 1977, the New Orleans Saints were overcome by them which made the Saints fire their head coach. Playing at their home ground, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers reaped a major feather in their crown in 1977 by defeating the St. Louis Cardinals in the season finale. Interestingly, the Cardinals also terminated contract of their coach after losing the game to the Buccaneers. With the dawn of 1978, several notable players of the franchise got injuries in games slowing down the pace of the team and restrained them from capturing more winning feats.

Year 1979 saw an improvement in the club's performance. They required to gain success in just one of the four games left in the season in order to make the playoffs. They ultimately achieved their first winning season by finishing with a 10-6 record. A major win was when they scored 24-17 against the Philadelphia Eagles in the divisional round of the playoffs. They won their division in the 1981 season making the playoffs again. The team has not looked back since then with their name becoming well-known with the enthusiasts of the American football.

The logo and uniform of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers has undergone numerous changes since the team's inception. The team's colors were changed to red, orange, black and pewter for the 1997 season in order to present them as daring. Crossed sabers and a white pirate skull in a red flag background replaced the earlier "Bucco Bruce". A saber held the flag. A new font, 'Totally Gothic' was used for the "Buccaneers" team name.
