Stanford Cardinal Basketball Program Formation

The name Stanford Cardinal is adopted by all the varsity sports of the Stanford University. With a total of 36 varsity sports that include golf, football, baseball, wrestling, basketball and gymnastics including others, the men’s basketball program is ranked among top NCAA Division I teams. Currently a member of the Pacific-12 Conference, the Stanford based team has been actively competing since 1914. In its inaugural season, the team under the leadership of head coach, H.W. Maloney, compiled a winning 7-5 score.

Statistics

Since its formation, the Stanford Cardinal has compiled a successful 1520-1137 score (as of October, 2015). With this, the collegiate team has made appearances in 17 NCAA tournaments, winning once in 1942 in a game against Dartmouth Big Green, 53-38. Similarly, the Cardinal have qualified for 8 NIT (National Invitation Tournaments), claiming 3 victories in 1991, 2012 and most recently 2015, played against Miami Hurricanes. Other wins include 13 Conference regular season titles and 5 Conference Tournament Championships (as of 2015).

Cardinal Play Against the Buffaloes

The Stanford Cardinal enjoyed a successful 2015 season with Johnny Dawkins as the team’s head coach for the 7th year. The team compiled a 24-13 regular season winning score and a 9-9 tie in Pac-12 Conference. With this it finished in 5th place in the conference. The Cardinal also took home the NIT Trophy.
