Formation Of The Seattle Mariners

After the baseball team Seattle Pilots was relocated to Milwaukee Wisconsin, Seattle Mariners was founded in 1977. The team plays in American League and did not fare well in the beginning. It had a losing record until 1991 but later bucked up and won many titles making it a competitive force.

Owned by John Stanton and Nintendo of America, the team is expected to be a source of pride for the fans under the management of Jerry Dipoto and Scott Servais. Being a part of the American League (AL) West Division, the Seattle Mariners competes in Major League Baseball (MLB). Initially the team played its home games in Kingdome and later moved to the ballpark T-Mobile Park.

The Turning Point

After years of struggle, Seattle Mariners started performing well in 2000. Despite facing tough competition, they won the American League Division Series after beating Chicago White Sox in a 3-0 game. However, they could not win the Championship series and lost to New York Yankees with a 4-1 score.

Seattle Mariners were at their best in 2001 when they made a record of scoring 116 wins that ended in a tie with Chicago Clubs’ Record in 1906. Not just this, the Mariners also won the AL West Division and later the AL Division Series against Cleveland Indians in a 3-2 game. They lost in the AL Championship Series by 4-1 in a match with New York Yankees.

From Struggles To Better Times

In the years that followed, the Mariners were struggling but finally stepped up in 2015 as they stood 2nd in the American League West Division.

After failing to qualify in the post season despite being second in the AL West Division, the Seattle Mariners were hopeful to do well in 2017. Fate was not quite different in 2017 as the Mariners did not go postseason making them the team having the longest postseason drought with a game log of 78-84.

With high pressure because of the longest active playoff drought, the year 2018 was better for the Seattle Mariners. There were ups and downs in the game. Many times Mariners were leading the Oakland Athletics with 10 games. But Mariners could not maintain the consistency and ended up with eight games behind the Athletics. This resulted in elimination in the playoffs with Athletics winning against the Minnesota Twins and Seattle Mariners ranking at 3rd divisional place.

SEATTLE MARINERS NEWS AND UPDATE

Seattle Mariners: Daniel Vogelbach Impresses Early in Spring

Hard work and offseason workouts paid off for the first baseman Daniel Vogelbach. Showing flashes of flexibility and improved footwork and agility, he’s likely to join veteran Danny Valencia at the first base. He has definitely impressed the manager Scott Servais, who feels that Vogelbach is moving a lot better defensively. He spent most of the offseason working with his brother who is a trainer in Florida. Incorporating yoga into his training, Vogelbach also performed drills that improved his first-step quickness and helped in loosening the muscles. If Vogelbach manages to bring it all into the Spring Training games then he’s likely to secure his place on the roster. He has what it takes to be a powerful source in a potent Mariners lineup.
