The Shark Tank is on a rampage to defeat the opponents and bring new records home. Relatively new to NHL, the San Jose Sharks are one of the most promising teams, having achieved a lot in a span of just 20 years in the world's most challenging Ice Hockey league. Come support your sharks as the Regular Season unwinds and reaches its climax in another 8 weeks and witness the energy all the loyal fans put in each game, with the Jaws theme played each time the puck hits the opponent's net. The San Jose Sharks was founded in 1991 as they replaced the California Golden Seals and brought Ice Hockey to the famous Bay Area. Initially named "Blades", the Sharks play their home games at San Jose's HP Pavilion (previously known as the San Jose Arena). Even in the first season there were moments when San Jose Sharks were recognized for their potential. Their iconic player Rob Gaudreau was credited Rookie of the Month for an impressive 14 goals. This was the first league-wide award for the Sharks. The same season, S.J.Sharkie, the San Jose Sharks' mascot was made. The 1993-94 season has been, to date one of the most successful comeback seasons in the history of sharks and one of the greatest turn around in the history of NHL. They ended the season with 33-35-16 record under the great Kevin Constantine's coaching, having a 58-poimt leap from the previous season, and having 82 points at the end of playoffs. The underdogs also stunned Detroit Red Wings that season to cause an upset. The 1994-95 season saw San Jose Sharks achieve their second straight playoffs and also made it to the second round. The two Russians Igor Larionov and Sergei Makarov were the benchmark forwards for the Sharks, helping them score numerous goals. However, their third season was something to forget, with numerous injuries and key players being transferred due to financial constraints, something every new team faces in NHL. Darryl Sutter, their new coach, could not produce any fireworks in the first season of him being the coach. The tides did change, however, in the 1999-2000 season as the sharks had their first-ever winning record. The Sharks also managed to defeat the Presidents' Trophy champs St. Louis Blues in straight seven games. In the 2000-01 season, the newly hired goalie Evgeni Nabokov from Kazakhstan was credited the league's best rookie and awarded the Calder Memorial Trophy. The 2001-02 can be regarded as the breakout year for San Jose as the Sharks won their first Pacific Division title. In 2003–04, under new head coach Ron Wilson the team had their best season ever. There was a newfound energy in the team due to hiring of young players like Christian Ehrhoff. That season the Sharks scored a record 104 points (first time the team achieved over 100) and also won the Pacific Division for a second time. Consisting the youngest players in 2006-07 certainly didn't mean they were the weakest, as the San Jose Sharks had their best ever 20-7-0 start. 2008 saw the team change the logos and uniforms, giving the Sharks a brand new feel. Wilson also left the boys after a very impressive record with the team. There were many new players hired to get a good mix for the team, and this was demonstrated very well in the success that was waiting for them. The San Jose Sharks were awarded the champs of the prestigious President's Trophy with the record 117 points in 53 wins. In 2009 the dynamic Scott Nichol was hired and Rob Blake was made the captain. Last year the Sharks ended the season at 113 points. They also advanced to the Western Conference Finals for the first time in over 5 years by defeating the Detroit Red Wings. After signing some more world class players like the Stanley Cup winner Antti Niemi, we are sure to see the aggression in their games and as the season comes to a close, the winners of seven trophies and awards, Sharks will be more than eager to end it in a high note. The San Jose Sharks are a NHL ice hockey outfit, playing in the Pacific Division of the Western Conference. The story of the San Jose Sharks eventual transformation is slow, reminiscent of the buildup to the awarding of the franchise in the first place. The Sharks started off in 1991, almost a decade after the idea had first been proposed to award a franchise to the populous developed San Francisco Bay Area; an area that had inexplicably been denied till then. In the two decades since, the squad has moved slowly from strength to strength, now finally fielding a formidable team that jostles regularly for top honors. And that is all that will interest its fans, as they are beginning to get good value for the money they've spent on San Jose Sharks tickets. The Stanley Cup or the Conference title still remains elusive. Yet a Conference Final appearance last year following hot on the heels of a Presidents' Trophy for most regular season points accumulated has kept the confidence high. San Jose is California's third-largest, & America's tenth-largest city, with a population of almost 1 million. It is the seat of Santa Clara County, situated at the southern tip of the Bay Area, a region of 7.5 million inhabitants. Starting off as a farming community, it has now morphed into a leading technology & electronics center. While the city expanded exponentially in the 1950s, the Sharks' entry into San Jose is also a recent story. George & Gordon Gund, owners of the Minnesota North Stars, had officially expressed their desire to bring a franchise to the Bay Area, only to be vetoed by the NHL as early as the 80s. Meanwhile, Hartford Whalers owner Howard Baldwin also wanted a team moved to San Jose to feature in an arena that was being built. The NFL reached a compromise in 1991 that allowed a complex deal whereby the Gunds brought a new team to San Jose, christened the Sharks. Baldwin got the Gunds' shares in the North Stars. While the early games were played in Daly City's Cow Palace, the Sharks moved to the HP Pavilion, colloquially called the Shark Tank, in September 1993. The 17,562-seater arena had to undergo extensive redesigning before its opening, which caused the delay. The HP Pavilion was named as such after HP's takeover in 2001, prior to which it was called the San Jose Arena. Todd McLellan is the current head coach of the San Jose Sharks, having replaced Ron Wilson in 2008. In two years under the stewardship of the former Stanley Cup-winning Detroit Red Wings assistant coach, the team has been prolific. McLellan won the gong for the Western Conference All-Star Team Coach in 2009. Doug Wilson serves as the GM of the Sharks since 2003, completing the franchise's selection panel, along with captain Joe Thornton. The team's minor league affiliates also help to filter in promising youngsters. These are the Worcester Sharks (from Massachusetts) of the American Hockey League, & the Stockton Thunder (from California) of the East Coast Hockey League. Igor "The Professor" Larionov is the only Sharks Hall of Famer. Famous players for the Sharks include Dany Heatley & Marc-Edouard Vlasic. The San Jose Sharks started off with a rotten run of form, establishing NHL's worst-ever season record in 1992. After freshening things up with a move to the San Jose Arena in 1993, the team recorded NHL's biggest comeback season ever, improving by a staggering 58 points for their first postseason, where they shocked the Red Wings. The team staged a slow improvement under Darryl Sutter, finally winning the Pacific Division title in 2001. After Ron Wilson took over in 2003-04, they repeated the feat, charging to the Conference Finals, only to be thwarted by the Calgary Flames. Three barren seasons followed but the San Jose Sharks have since hit a purple patch, winning the Division in each of their last three years, with the last one being their second foray into the Conference Finals. The Sharks clinched the Presidents' Trophy with a league-topping 117 pts in 2009. Thornton has won both the Art Ross highest scorer Trophy & the Hart Memorial Most Valuable Player Trophy in 2005. San Jose Sharks tickets are flying off the shelves as fans warm to the team's upturn in fortunes. There is palpable hope for the coming season, & who could bet against that with 18,000 raucous fans getting behind their back! The San Jose Sharks have been swirling around their prey for a while now, yet the past few seasons for the NHL ice hockey team have showcased a maturity that has made fans believe the predatory instinct has well & truly developed. Still a young franchise that suffered from neglect of a potentially huge San Francisco Bay Area market until the early 90s, the Sharks play in the hotly contested Pacific Division of the Western Conference. In the two decades since, the Sharks have moved slowly from strength to strength, now finally fielding a formidable team that jostles regularly for top honors. And that is all that will interest Sharks fans, as they are beginning to get good value for the money they've spent on San Jose Sharks tickets.
