Riley Green’s Origin: There is something in the Water of Jacksonville
Located in the foothills of the beautiful Appalachian Mountains, Jacksonville rests in the middle of Birmingham and Atlanta. A small city with Southern charm, Jacksonville punches above its weight. Home to a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, an MLB, and NFL player, several politicians and Confederate Army officers, the only thing Jacksonville lacked was a country music artist and it got one in 1988.
Now 30 years of age, Riley Green initially had no intention of becoming a country music artist full-time. Yet now when you attend his concerts, you can’t help yourself wonder if this man was meant to be anything but. As a young boy, Green spent much time with his grandfather, Bufford Green, who managed Golden Saw Music Hall. An old pinewood house, Golden Saw Music Hall is a quiet place except on Friday nights, when it fills with country music lovers, eager to listen to singing fiddles, twanging guitars, and clap hands. This is where Green first learnt the spirit of songwriting and live performance.
Raised on the sounds of Southern gospel, bluegrass and old traditional country music, Green hobnobbed with his peers at Golden Saw Music Hall. This is where his quest for identity started – the search of a young Southern man trying to find his place in the world. His earlier songs reflected the same – his yearning for who he is.
Riley Green Slowly Getting the Hang of Things
Riley Green is now signed with Big Machine Records. Miles away from his Jacksonville home, Green has also progressed in his career exponentially. “I moved to Nashville and I signed a publishing deal and signed a record deal thanks to folks like y'all buying my stuff and downloading my single,” he said.”
Today, his music has a fine balance of outlaw-rebellion with respect for traditional country music. In a way, his music can be described as neither completely Willie Nelson nor completely Chris Stapleton. A unique music of old and contemporary, you have got to be at one of Green’s concerts to truly appreciate his work.
What’s His Concerts Like?
Wearing a T-shirt, jeans, ball cap and cowboy boots, the casually dressed Green immediately grabs everyone’s attention by playing his acoustic guitar. He is known for kicking off things with The Boss’s (Bruce Springsteen) stripped-down cover of “Atlantic City.” His band then joins him and together they break into fan favorites and arena-ready anthems like “Runnin’ With an Angel” and “Man Like Me.” The latter is especially popular among rednecks.
You don’t have to be a redneck to like something like “Man Like Me” – a rock-fused country song with the authenticity of the traditional country music. You just have to like country music; better yet, you just need to be a music lover.
Riley Green tickets, in short, are your one-way pass to his originals and covers. He holds the audience in the palm of his hand the entire concert. Don’t believe it? Just get your tickets now and see it for yourself.
