The two teams that played in the first modern World Series will be facing each other yet again this year. The Pittsburgh Pirates and the Boston Red Sox are two of the oldest and most successful teams playing in Major League Baseball. Both teams share a history rife with some of baseball’s finest moments. And this year, the reigning champs from the 2013 season, the Red Sox, and the National League runner-ups, the Pirates, will be heading to the diamond at the PNC Park for their regular season fixtures. While the Pirates will have the home advantage, the Red Sox will face hostile crowds. Fans can catch them live in action by getting their Pittsburgh Pirates Vs Boston Red Sox tickets now.

When Big Papi announced he was going to retire at the end of the season, speculation immediately turned to potential replacements for the Red Sox icon. Numerous players have been linked to the Red Sox over the course of the season, but there are only a few names which seem like actual replacements for Ortiz.

The Toronto Blue Jays’ Edwin Encarnacion is one such name. Encarnacion has a wonderful record at Fenway Park; he has struck twelve home runs, driven in thirty seven runs and his average in forty four career games at the ballpark is 0.296. Encarnacion will be out of contract at the end of this season and the Red Sox would not mind having his firepower on their side.

Another player being linked to the Boston side is Jose Bautista, who also has a superb record at Fenway Park. The slugger has belted twenty two homeruns, driven in fifty one runs and has an average of .277 in sixty games at Fenway Park. With Ortiz retiring, Bautista could very well be the player to take the Red Sox forward. He is also out of contract at the end of the season.

The third possible player being linked to the Red Sox is Mark Teixeira, the Yankees’ first baseman. Despite the fact that his offensive stats have slipped, Teixeira still remains a supremely talented first baseman and Boston could very well have Hanley Ramirez and Teixeira shared DH and first base duties next season to account for Ortiz’s retirement.

The Boston Red Sox and the Pittsburgh Pirates are two of the oldest professional teams in Major League Baseball. They played in the 1903 World Series where the Boston Red Sox managed to beat the Pirates five games to three. This year, as they prepare to take the diamond at the PNC Park yet again, fans from both sides of the bleachers are hoping for their team’s win.

The Pittsburgh Pirates were established in 1882. Since then, they have won five World Series, nine National League Pennants, and nine Divisional Titles. Currently, they play in the Central Division of the National League. While the Pirates have been a consistently strong team in the past, they have been going through a dry spell since the early 1990’s. The team broke the spell in the 2013 season, where they ended as the League runner ups. This year, they head on the field under the direction of General Manager, Neal Huntington, hoping to continue their winning streak from last year.

The Boston Red Sox will be facing the Pirates this year. The team is fresh off their World Series win from last year, and this time around, they will be playing to defend their title. The Red Sox currently play in the East Division of the American League. They have won a total of eight World Series, thirteen American League Pennants and seven East Division Titles.
