Although the bowl did not bring in teams from different conferences in its early years, but now the match is fought between the two teams of the Big Ten Conference and the Southeastern Conference. The bowl invites the third pick team of Big Ten to play against the third pick team of the SEC. Previously, the teams from Atlantic Coast Conference have also been allowed to battle against other regional teams. The matches are played at the Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida. From 1986 to 1994, the Outback Bowl was more famous as Hall of Fame Bowl but in 1995, it was renamed as Outback Bowl due to its new restaurant chain sponsor, Outback Steakhouse.
