Oregon State Beavers is a name shared by all the sports teams of the Oregon State University. This University is based in Corvallis, Oregon. The university is known as OSU in short. It has sports teams for both men and women and these teams participate and compete in the National Collegiate Athletic Association or NCAA. The Beavers form part of the Pacific 10. The beavers have shared a long standing rivalry with the Oregon Ducks belonging to the University of Oregon. Both the teams are noted to have a bitter rivalry especially in football and that rivalry has now come to be termed as the Civil War. Both the teams have come face to face for a total of 113 times which makes it the longest running rivalry among college teams in the entire country.
The baseball team at the OSU was established in 1907. Since the time of its inception, around fifteen players have gotten a chance to play in the MLB baseball. Till date, Beavers have fetched a total of 22 wins in its conference championship. Presently beavers play their home games at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field. Oregon State Beavers have a wonderfully talented men's basketball team as well. This team is famous for producing some of the best players that go on to play in NBA. Some of the NBA All-Stars that once used to be in Beavers roster include Gary Payton and A.C Green. The Beavers have won four Olympic Gold Medals and have won ten NBA Championship Rings.
Since 1893, football has been an integral part of the Universitys sports program, and many football players who play for the university end up as NFL players. Names of such players include, T.J. Houshmandzadeh, Chad Johnson and Terry Baker. Women sports do not go unnoticed here either, and to begin with their basketball program has been fabulously successful, and has brilliant players like Felicia Ragland. The Womens Gymnastics program is without a doubt the most successful program among all other women sports teams. The womens Gymnastics team has the honor of being recognized among the best teams in the entire nation.
They have received immense love and support from fans across the nation and therefore they have been nicknamed the Beavers. Their team colors are orange and black, and their mascot is Benny Beaver. The athletic director for the Beavers is Bob De Carolis. They play their basketball games at the Gill Coliseum, football games at the Reser Stadium and baseball games at the Goss Stadium at Coleman Field.
