However, though this change affected the team a little positive, they went through some major losses like being defeated by Chicago Bulls in the semi-finals of a local event. When the 1989 90 season commenced, Stu Jackson took the reins of the team as the coach with the result that Celtics lost out to the Knicks in the first round of the playoffs. The Knicks managed to gain victory in the final three games; however in the next round the NBA champion Detroit Pistons thrashed them.

Changes were again made and a new coach was hired again, yet the Knicks lost out to the champion team Bulls.
