Founding members of the BAA
New York Knicks was formed in 1946 when it was amongst the founding members of the Basketball Association of America. Later, the franchise moved to the NBA when the merger of the BAA with the NBL took place in 1949.
Based in Manhattan
The Knicks are headquartered in Manhattan. The franchise is placed in the Eastern Conference where they play in the Atlantic division. The home court of the Knicks is the famous and glamorous Madison Square Garden.
Highs and Lows
Over the years, Knicks fans have experienced euphoric highs as well as heartbreaking lows as their franchise has spent more than fifty years and counting in the NBA. The initial decade was one of promise as the Lapchick led Knicks made it to three NBA finals. However, the next decade saw the team’s performances drop off.
Knicks fans regard the era under Red Holzman as one of the most successful. This was the time when the franchise lifted the championship twice during the 70s. The next two decades once again saw near misses and heartbreaking losses. During this time, the Knicks had in their lineup Patrick Ewing who would go on to be inducted in the Basketball Hall of Fame. In spite of all Ewing’s efforts, the Knicks were not able to replicate the success of the 70s.
New look-new hopes
