The tournament brings all the teams from the 32 Divisions head to head. The teams who would participate in the series are chosen by the NCAA itself. These divisions consist of 64 teams. Each team is placed into one of 4 regions, and an elimination round takes place in each region. Each win determines which two teams would face each other. After the four stages between eight lower ranking teams, the final teams for the tournament are selected and the competition officially begins. A game is played every weekend so that out of the 64, three quarter teams are eliminated. The “Sweet 16” is then selected who play in the final weekends. It is a great honor for any team to make the Final Four. This is traditionally played during April. Each team represents one of the four regions.

The 2013 NCAA Men’s Division had a total of 68 participating teams, all taking place in a single-elimination contest. This tournament was the 75th annual NCAA event which begun in 1939, held to crown the champions from the Division 1 “College Basketball” division of the NCAA. The first match was on the 19th of March 2013 and the final championship game was held on 8th April 2013, with the Louisville Cardinals gaining victory over the youngest team of the 68, The Michigan Wolverines, with a concluding score of 82-76.

CBS declared the participant teams and their tournament group on “Selection Sunday”, 17th of March 2013.The champions of the “Atlantic Sun Conference”, the “Florida Gulf Coast” was a fairly new institution, only beginning it’s classes in 1997 but was qualified for Division 1  postseason . The team made their debut appearance in the tournament, gaining victory in two separate matches and becoming the first time #15 team to be qualified for the “Sweet Sixteen” Two other teams also gained victory in their first appearance in the NCAA. These were the official Harvard basketball team and the North Carolina A&T Liberty. The Big South championships that took place earlier in the year also determined the teams that would ultimately take part in the tournament which turned out to be a mega successful event.
